    Alan Bloome

    Jaime Blake

    Bessingham Gardens, founded by Alan Herbert Vauser Bloom (1906 – 2005) are world famous. Alan was a horticulturalist & steam engine enthusiast who, during his life created over 170 new varieties of hardy perennial plants. In 1957 he was one of the founders of The Hardy Plant Society and its first Chairman. Jaime is Bressingham Gardens head gardener and Alan's son-in-law.

    My Dream Garden

    It takes courage to make a drastic change to what is widely acknowledged one of the best gardens in the north. Since the group visited Heather's garden she has developed her own 'Dream Garden' and she will tell us and show us the result in this widely anticipated talk. If you have not seen Heather's garden or heard her talk don't miss out!

    Ann is well known to local visitors as she opens her lovely garden in Summerbridge for the N.G.S. She has a 1 acre country garden with several gardens within, including a wild flower meadow and a woodland rock garden amongst others. This talk is based on Ann's experience of creating a garden on a shady site, the plants she used and which ones thrive there

    Sledmere Gardens Through The Year

    Andrew Karavics

    Andrew Karavics trained at Bishop Burton College & arrived at Sledmere House in 2009 having moved south from Cambo in Fife. He became Head Gardener in 2011 and has since given the gardens a whole new lease of life thanks to his unerring attention to detail.

    Wacks Wicked Plants = Carnivorous Plants

    Peter & Hellentje Walker

    Peter Walker (Wack) has a special interest in exotic & unusual plants and with his wife Helleentje started a backyard nursery in Knaresborough. They moved to Scampston in 2015 to enable them to expand and now specialise in carnivorous plants.

    Robert Jamieson

    Robert Jamieson is Head Gardener of the Gardens & 65 acre Arboretum at Howick Hall in Northumberland home to the Earl Greys (of Tea fame). Look on line at his Head Gardener's Notebook to get a flavour of the delights in store there.

    Dr Alastair Fitter CBE FRS

    Dr Alastair Fitter is a distinguished Professor who was at York University from 1972 to 2010 where for the last 6 years, before he retired, he was Pro-Vice-Chancellor for research. He was elected as Fellow of the Royal Society in 2005 & is Chair of the Trustees of the Yorkshire Arboretum & former Director of the Yorshire Wildlife Trust.
